Police v. L
L was a driver who had been given £30,000 in cash to keep on his person and to use as business expenses for some contacts who had come to visit the UK on a trade trip from China. There was a huge contract at stake, and the trade negotiations were at a delicate stage.
L was tasked to show the Chinese delegates the UK operation and also provide a tour of Greater Manchester and what it has to offer. Unfortunately, L was double parked while he was waiting for his delegates to finish a long lunch at a local Chinese restaurant. The police became suspicious and searched the vehicle, on doing so they recovered the cash.
L's employers were horrified that this had taken place while entertaining their guests and were very concerned about the impact this event would have on their reputation and on the ongoing trade negotiations.
We were instructed on an urgent basis to provide assistance, support and liaise with the police. We met with L's employers, secured the necessary evidence and drafted the appropriate witness statements and letters. We then arranged a meeting with the officers and resolved the matter discreetly and expeditiously.
